As the name suggests, this angelfish comes from the (middle and upper) Rio Negro basin in Brazil and Colombia. Being part of the Altum (Pterophyllum altum) family, this fish has a very tall and slim body, mostly suited for tall aquariums full of plants or driftwood. It prefers very slow moving, soft and black water. In general they are very peaceful, but in the spawning season they tend to become territorial.
So if you plan on breeding this fish, you must give it a lot of space with minimal tank mates. They like to shoal in groups so keep this in mind.

Minimum tank size: at least 60-70 liters
